Building Sustainable Organizations
Nick Roy May 22nd, 2005
Sustainability is the ability to create new ways to live and prosper while ensuring an equitable, healthy future for all people and the planet. That is the mission of The Natural Step organization.
To build a sustainable organization, requires knowledge of our ecosystem. All orgnizations should be built on the model of “Take-Make-Waste.” Take-Make-Waste is a model based on open systems theory. It demonstrates that all organizations take in resources that come from the earth, goes into the organization where it is transformed into a product, and eventually turns into waste. When people don’t want a particular product no more, it goes into landfills. Landfills are already reaching their limits. What can organizations do to reduce this type of waste? How can organizations be designed to contribute to the reduction of this type of waste?
Visit The Natural Step to learn how organizations can be designed to create a sustainable world. This web site is best used in conjunction with the book “Beyond The Limits” by Meadows.

Speaking about waste, what about the energy that is being wasted. Being in the energy field I see much waste of our energy resources. Managing our computers and various other items during unoccupied hours can save energy and reduce waste.
